Herbal Remedies for Fertility and Menopause

False unicorn root, Chamaelirium luteum, is also used for delayed or absent menstruation. It is a tonic that strengthens the reproductive system in both women and men. Put one to two teaspoonfuls of root in a cup of water and bring to boil and simmer gently for ten to 15 minutes. Drink three times a day.

Aromatherapy and Hormone Regulating Oil for Menopause

Rose otto, Roman chamomile or true melissa, when combined with clary sage or sandalwood and peppermint oil, provides relief for hot flushes. Clary sage and true melissa both have uplifting and hormone regulating properties if also experiencing depression. Peppermint oil put on a tissue when a hot flush is coming on for inhalation is also useful.

To make a hormone regulating oil, put two drops of rose otto and sandalwood, three drops of bitter orange and cypress into one fluid ounce, 30 ml or five teaspoons of carrier oil. Massage this oil daily into the shoulders and small of back.

Herbs Used for Menopause

Herbs such as chasteberry, blue cohosh, life root, false unicorn root, golden seal and ladies’ mantle are used to treat menopausal symptoms. Chasteberry, Vitex agnus-castus, is a tonic for the reproduction system and is used to normalize the female sex hormones for dysmenorrhoea, pre-menstrual syndrome and menopause and to regain hormonal balance after using birth control pills. To make a herbal tea pour cup of boiling water onto one teaspoonful of ripe berries and infuse ten to 15 minutes and drink three times a day.

  • 1 part motherwort
  • 1 part sage
  • 1 part nettle leaves
  • 1 part each lemon balm & mugwort leaves
  • 1 part chaste tree berries
  • 1 part horsetail

Place all herbs in a tea ball and cover with boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes. Remove tea ball or bag.
